Overview

We are seeking an experienced Managing Director to join the senior leadership team of a $2 billion global sports investment fund focused on acquiring strategic minority positions across premier sports assets and platforms worldwide.

The fund invests across professional leagues, elite clubs, motorsport platforms, global sports brands, and select opportunistic transactions, emphasizing long-term value creation, governance influence, and global brand growth.

The Managing Director will play a central role in investment origination, execution, portfolio oversight, and strategic partnerships, working closely with the General Partners, league stakeholders, and operating partners.

Investment Focus

The fund targets minority investments across:

Professional Sports Franchises (minority positions), including: NBA & NHL
Elite Global Football (Soccer) Clubs, including UEFA Champions League–level platforms
Motorsport Platforms, including team ownership, series participation, and related commercial assets
Global Sports Brands & Media Platforms, including IP, licensing, and commercial rights
Opportunistic Sports Investments, including restructurings, carve-outs, and special situations

Key Responsibilities

Investment Origination & Execution

Source and originate proprietary and intermediary-led investment opportunities globally
Lead transaction execution across minority investments, including valuation, structuring, governance rights, and league approvals
Oversee due diligence across financial, legal, league, commercial, and operational dimensions
Prepare and present investment memoranda to the Investment Committee

Portfolio & Governance

Act as board member, board observer, or governance representative for portfolio investments
Manage relationships with majority owners, league offices, and operating partners
Monitor portfolio performance, capital structure, and strategic initiatives
Support liquidity events, recapitalizations, secondary sales, and structured exits

Strategy & Firm Leadership

Contribute to overall fund strategy, asset allocation, and portfolio construction
Support capital formation, LP diligence, and ongoing investor communications as needed
Mentor junior investment professionals and contribute to talent development
Represent the firm with leagues, team owners, advisors, banks, and strategic partners

Qualifications

12+ years of experience in sports investment, private equity, investment banking, principal investing, or a related field
Demonstrated experience executing minority investments and navigating complex governance structures
Deep familiarity with professional sports leagues, club ownership models, and league approval processes
Strong financial modeling, valuation, and structuring skills
Global mindset with experience working across multiple jurisdictions
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred
Series 65 (or ability to obtain promptly)

Compensation & Economics

The role offers institutional, performance-aligned compensation consistent with senior leadership positions at global alternative investment platforms:

Base Salary: $300,000 – $500,000
Annual Bonus: Performance-based; total annual cash compensation typically $600,000 – $1,500,000
Carried Interest: Meaningful participation in fund carry (generally 0.25% – 1.5% of total carry pool), subject to vesting and fund performance
Long-Term Upside: Multi-million-dollar carry potential over the fund life for strong performers
